During a fire fighting drill aboard U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star (WAGB 10) while underway in the Pacific Ocean, crew members check each other for exposed skin, tighten loose straps and prepare to respond to a simulated fire, Nov. 30, 2021. Every member of the Coast Guard, regardless of rate or rank, is taught how to dress out in firefighting gear including insulated rubber boots, a thick fireproof coverall, self-contained breathing apparatus with an oxygen tank, and fire-retardant gloves and headgear.
