For this week’s #WAD4, we’d like to feature Tech. Sgt. D’Angelo Cloud, a cyber detect operator with the 62nd Cyber Squadron, and a graduate of the Intermediate Cyber Core Course. The 62nd CYS is an operational element of Space Delta 6, which provides Mission Defense Team support to DEL 4.
As a Guardian in the 62nd, Cloud has the tremendous responsibility of monitoring, detecting, and rapidly responding to cyber alerts defending three constellations of Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) satellites and two types of Ground-Based Radars (GBRs) from cyber attacks. He and his team also conduct various missions to actively hunt for and mitigate cyber threats on our missile warning networks.
Earlier this year, Cloud attended a highly technical three-month cyber defense course, called Intermediate Cyber Core, as well as an intro to space operations course, bridging the gap between space and traditional communications. This training is crucial for current Guardians to adapt to cyber space operations and for future Guardians to intelligently defend our missile warning networks. Cyber detect operators directly liaise with intel to analyze space events and to search for possible data breaches.
The USSF is prioritizing acquiring high level training and quality cyber security tools embracing its vision for a “Digital Dominance.” After this training, Cloud was certified as a defensive cyber operations operator within two months, expediting his ability to fill the cyber crew lead role, and has led Hunt, Reconnaissance, and Escort missions to defend our missile warning networks.
“It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come from traditional ‘Comm’ to an operationally-focused unit that anticipates adversarial threats and delivers innovative Defensive Cyber Operations capabilities to our missile warning networks,” said Cloud.
Cloud’s goals are to make master sergeant and get more certifications including becoming an Amazon web services certified developer and certified information systems security professional. In his free time, Cloud enjoys hanging out with his puppy, Luna, and hiking. His favorite hike was the Flattop in Anchorage, Alaska!
Thank you for leading the way Tech. Sgt. Cloud!
