Curtiss XF7C-1 Seahawk: Designed as a naval shipboard fighter, the Curtiss XF7C-1 Seahawk was used by the NACA to test cowling (the Seahawk in this photo is shown prior to the installation of the cowling), including the Langley-developed Variable Angle Cowling. Production F7C-1s in Navy service did not have cowlings on the engines or spinners on the propellers.
