Before ceremonies began, people walked the cemetery gounds reading grave makers.
On Saturday morning, December 18, as part of the Wreaths Across America Day, several hundred participants and volunteers laid Christmas wreaths on every grave marker in the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, located in the Boise foothills. The day before, members of the Idaho Patriot Guard Riders worked several hours on a cold December afternoon, unloading hundreds of boxes containing the wreaths and spread out to distribute them across the cemetery’s 76.5 acres in preparation for Saturday’s national event.
On Saturday, at Arlington alone, 257,000 wreaths were placed on every gravesite, columbarium court column, and niche wall column. In 2020, Wreaths Across America placed 1.7 million wreaths on gravesites at 2557 locations across the country. Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, wreath-laying ceremonies are carried out at Arlington National Cemetery, and more than 2,500 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad to fulfill the Wreaths Across America mission - Remember, Honor and Teach.
