211214-N-MR124-1074 MANAMA, Bahrain (Dec. 14, 2021) Chief Fire Controlman (Aegis) Kial Hartwell, left, a native of Raleigh, North Carolina, hands a relic from the Pennsylvania-class battleship USS Arizona (BB-39) to Senior Chief Electrician’s Mate Michael Pendergraft, a native of Newport News, Virginia, aboard Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS O’Kane (DDG 77) during a ceremony in commemoration and remembrance of the 80th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor during a port visit in Manama, Bahrain, Dec. 14, 2021. The relic originates from a section of the superstructure of the Arizona that was removed from the ship when the Arizona Memorial was constructed. The Naval History and Heritage Command authorized the removal of sections of the relics for display and legacy enhancing purposes in 1994. O’Kane is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and Pacific through the Western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
