U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Koen Anderson, 17th Special Operations Squadron aerial gunner, readies another shell for an M137A1 105mm artillery cannon, while Staff Sgt. Devin Carpenter, 17 SOS aerial gunner, extracts brass during live fire training Nov. 30, 2021, over Melrose Air Force Range, New Mexico. Anderson and Carpenter coordinate with weapons systems officers aboard an AC-130J Ghostrider gunship, enabling the aircrew to engage ground threats efficiently with maximum force suppression using not only the 105mm, but also the Bushmaster GAU-23 30mm chain gun and a variety of standoff precision guided munitions.
