Defense Department Support to FEMA COVID-19

GRANGRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—U.S. Army 1st Lt. Karl Berkemeier, an emergency room nurse assigned to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, draws blood from a patient to run tests at Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Dec. 13, 2021. To diagnose patients, a variety of tests must be run in order to ensure continuity of treatments. Berkemeier is part of a medical response team that is deployed in support of the continued Department of Defense COVID response operations to help communities in need. U.S. Northern Command, through U.S. Army North, remains committed to providing flexible Department of Defense support to the whole-of-government COVID response. (U.S. Army photo by Spc. Ty Baggerly)
