Dr. Lance Lubach, a volunteer opthamologist for the Wisconsin Lions Club, and Cheryl Lubach, a Wisconsin Lions Club volunteer, give an Afghan evacuee an eye exam during an optometry clinic at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, Nov. 12, 2021 as part of Operation Allies Welcome. The Lions Club brought approximately 20,000 glasses to Fort McCoy through their glasses donation program, and fitted them to Afghan evacuees here who need them. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible. This initiative provides Afghan evacuees essential support at secure locations outside Afghanistan. (U.S. Army photo by Pfc. Caitlin Wilkins, 50th Public Affairs Detachment)
