New American Citizen Spc. Li Ye, left, shakes hands with Maj. Gen. Darrell J. Guthrie, commanding general, 88th Readiness Division, following a naturalization ceremony that saw Ye and two other Task Force McCoy Soldiers officially become American citizens, November 4, 2021, at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin. The ceremony marks the end of a process that saw Ye, a native of China, recite the Oath of Allegiance and become an American citizen. The Department of Defense, through the U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible. This initiative provides Afghan personnel essential support at secure locations outside Afghanistan. (U.S. Army photo by Zach Mott)
