Handheld still image taken by STS-114 Discovery's crew of the external fuel tank as it was jettisoned after launch on July 26 were transmitted to the ground early July 27. In this still image, the area of missing foam on the tank is indicated by a light spot near the upper edge of the tank just below the liquid oxygen feedline. View of the +Y intertank and ET nose. Typical small divots, too numerous to count, were seen on the +Y ET thrust panel and on the Z side of the +Y thrust panel. Typical burn scarring was noted on the +Y thrust panel, LO2 intertank flange, and on the +Y side of the LO2 tank. The PAL ramp on the LO2 tank appeared to be in good condition. The ET nose was in good condition. Several small, popcorn divots were noted on the ET forward ogive aft of the ET nose cone. Typical ablation around the area just aft of the nose cone was also noted. Typical ablation on the LO2 feedline flanges was noted, and the feedline appeared to be in good condition.
