Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Richard Kibbey peers at the urn of U.S. Air Force Col. Richard A. Kibbey on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, Oct. 29, 2021. Kibbey and Senior Airman Chad M. Koon attended Col. Richard A. Kibbey's Chain of Custody ceremony as surviving family members, where they formally received his remains. While conducting a rescue and recovery mission in an HH-3E helicopter over North Vietnam, Kibbey and fellow aircrew received enemy fire which resulted in an internal explosion and crash.
