Maryland National Guard Sgt. 1st Class Kelly Lemmons of Special Operations Detachment – NATO poses for a photo at the Six Flags Mass Vaccination Site in Bowie, Maryland, March 9, 2021. (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Sgt. Arcadia Hammack)
Lemmons, originally born in Italy, now serves the people of Maryland, as a human resources specialist or S1/J1. He is who service members look to when they need their administrative problems solved, but with MDNG’s response to fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, he has additional duties. Currently he is part of COVID-19 Vaccination Operations where he verifies the information being sent up to the Task Force 291 Commander is correct and accurate. While not serving the community in a National Guard uniform, you can find him serving the community in a different uniform, the uniform of a firefighter at station 69 in Cumberland. Lemmons is also the president of a non-profit called the Children’s Christmas Party.
"People are more important than hardware. So I think, when you look at it that way as us being the solution, it allows the soldier to relax, and concentrate on his mission of making sure the public is taken care of, every single day,” said Lemmons. “All the guys and gals I’ve gotten to work with and meet throughout the Maryland Army National Guard have been phenomenal. We lead from the front, as we can see here at the vaccination site. And it is amazing, so I want to say thank you.”
