U.S. service members assigned to Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, participate in a mass immunization event as part of Exercise Active Shield 2021 at the air station’s IronWorks North gymnasium, Oct. 20, 2021. The evolution was designed to vaccinate all active duty service members at the air station and to simulate the need for a quick response to the spread of a national virus. Active Shield is an annual bilateral training exercise designed to test U.S. and Japanese forces in their ability to respond to contingencies and cooperatively address challenges faced by the installation.
