Afghan personnel listen to a pre-departure briefing at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, Oct. 15, 2021. During the briefing Afghan evacuees are informed about what to expect during resettlement. These things include rules of travel with the Transportation Security Administration, where they will be going next, and their point of contact when they arrive at their destination. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible. This initiative provides Afghan evacuees essential support at secure locations outside Afghanistan. (U.S. Army Photo by SPC Logan Ludwig / 7th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment.)
