Sailors aboard the USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) man the rails as the ship arrives in port. Kitty Hawk, the world's only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier, returned after completing a scheduled fall deployment and participation in ANNUALEX, the maritime component of the U.S.-Japan exercise Keen Sword 08. The exercise was designed to increase interoperability between the United States and Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force and enhance their ability to effectively and mutually respond to a regional crisis situation.
