The man behind historic Quarters One on Rock Island Arsenal in Illinois is Brig. Gen. Thomas Rodman. Construction started on the home under his command in 1870, and the first major gathering held in the residence was in 1871 for his funeral, following his death on the island. His portrait hangs at the foot of the master staircase in the house. (Photo by Staci-Jill Burnley, ASC Public Affairs)
