Lt. Col. Joseph Luchetta, 406th Army Field Support Brigade Commander, points out newly constructed support facilities to Gen. Glen D. VanHerck, Commander, North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command, Sept. 20, 2021. The 406th AFSB contracted and had lodging built for Afghan evacuees at Fort Pickett, Virginia. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of State and Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
