As a child, 1st Lt. Morgan Fleming, an armor officer with 1st Battalion, 35th Armored Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, with her father in 2001. Fleming says that she always wanted to be a soldier like her father and uses his leadership guidance in her everyday life. She now serves as the officer in charge of a female engagement team in support of Operation Allies Welcome at Fort Bliss’ Doña Ana Complex in New Mexico, Sept. 16, 2021. FETs assist female Afghan guests with navigating in-processing procedures and other issues and concerns they may have. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
