In honor of the 20th Anniversary of 9/11, Senior Master Sgt. Kristy Price, 192nd Comptroller Flight superintendent, shares how she was impacted by the events of that tragic day. As an 18-year-old at the time of the attacks, Price was the Missile Alert Facility chef at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota. Two hours after the World Trade Center was hit, she was recalled back to the base with a mission to pack as many boxed meals as possible and load them onto planes to get them where they were needed most. Although she lived only five miles away, it took eight hours to drive there and get back on base due to traffic and chaos. “I sat and listened to the radio for hours, hoping it was a dream and wondering what was going to happen next,” she said. “When I finally made it on base, we got to work. The mission was now. No one wanted to sleep, no one thought of themselves. There was one goal, to help.” Price transferred to the Virginia Air National Guard in 2009. In 2019, she deployed to Al Dhafra Air Base, United Arab Emirates, which helped her understand and support what her maintainers, pilots and friends did in the Middle East during the last 20 years.
