Members of the 127th Wing participated in a 9/11 memorial ruck march commemorating the 20th Anniversary of 9/11 at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich., Sept. 11, 2021. The 127th First Sergeants council organized the event to honor those who lost their lives. Airman walked with their rucksacks six miles, starting their march with a moment of silence at the time of the first 9/11 attacks. Wing members continued their march, pausing in remembrance at the times of the subsequent attacks. Members took the time to reflect on how 9/11 affected their lives. Tech. Sgt. Emilee Wilson, 127th Logistic Readiness Squadron Fuels technician was in middle school at the time. " I try do something every year," Wilson said. She recalled the school shutting down and being sent home early. "Life was completely different for me after 9/11." “It is important to remember our past to fully understand the present” said Senior Master Sgt. Matthew Brewer, 127th Wing first sergeant. "Understanding the why changes your perspective and propels you to work harder for the overall mission in keeping America safe." (U.S. Air National Guard photo by Tech. Sgt. Samara Taylor)
