U.S. Army Col. Timothy MacDonald, operations director, Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa, re-administers the Oath of Enlistment to Sgt. 1st Class Nathan Phelps, military police officer, CJTF-HOA, from Locke, New York, while aboard a KC-130J over East Africa, Sept. 11, 2021. The reenlistment occurred while flying over a Patriot’s Day ceremony at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States on Sept. 11, 2001. Phelps extended his enlistment indefinitely while completing his third overseas deployment in support of the Global War on Terror. The ground ceremony included a joint formation, a multi-aircraft flyover, presentation of colors and the playing of Taps. Camp Lemonnier held multiple events in honor and remembrance of those who lost their lives both on that day and over the past two decades fighting the Global War on Terror.
