U.S. Army Spc. Sheree Patterson, assigned to 411th Military Police Company, 720th Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade, waits for vehicles to pull into the gate at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, Sept. 8, 2021. Patterson is deployed from Fort Hood and came to Fort McCoy to help Afghan evacuees during their stay as well as provide security for the post. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
