Heavy equipment operators from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis District Clearing & Snagging Unit are the first team into an area to prepare it for the revetment infrastructure necessary to maintain channel integrity along the Mississippi River and its key tributaries. The team relies on heavy equipment like this crane and bucket (right), with its 120-ton lift capacity, to clear vegetation and debris during the 8-month season running July through March.
