A land bird is inside a tube to weigh the bird without harm, McCrady Training Center, S.C., Sept. 29, 2012. South Carolina Department of Natural Resources captures land birds to gather information about the birds such as body fat, wingspan, weight, age and sex. The birds are banded and released with a tracking number to learn about behavioral patterns like their migration and where they spend their winter.
