Naval Support Activity (NSA) Hampton Roads continues to work on the upkeep and beautification of Captain Ted Conaway Memorial Naval Cemetery at NSA Hampton Roads-Portsmouth Annex with the help from two very important groups. Renewed Remembrance, which was founded by two Medical Service Corps Officers, CDR Jim Nogle and LT Stephanie Burkhart, consist of a few volunteers from multiple #Navy groups and associations who help to clean, repair, preserve and catalog the headstones. They have completed about 40% of the more than 800 headstones at the cemetery.
The Ogg Stone Works Company has been working to reset any leaning headstones which involves using prybars to pull the headstones level with the ground and place crushed stone and sand underneath to support the relocated monuments.
"I feel it is a duty and an honor to be able to maintain the final resting place of such a varied group of people," said Kenny Pugh, Site Director at NSA Hampton Roads-Portsmouth Annex. "I feel our efforts today may encourage someone to do the same for us in the future."
