Seeking out the enemy is not a Marine’s only job. They must also know themselves and seek self-improvement on and off the battlefield. This is where the Commandant’s Professional Reading List comes in.
The CMC’s list is divided into sections including Commandant’s Choice, Profession of Arms, Innovation, Leadership, Strategy. Each year it is expected Marines will read a minimum of five books , attempting to read all titles within their level prior to proceeding to a higher level. Becoming exposed and learning from different forms of literature promotes the intellectual growth of every individual Marine. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Webster Rison)
