A gas mask tester in the Protection Assessment Test System laboratory at Redstone Arsenal, Ala., shows a reading of 1667, which indicates that for every 1,667 particles outside the mask, only one particle is inside the mask. After the tester is calibrated, it will be certified to ensure a less-than-10% difference in the actual particle count versus what the tester measures.
