An aircraft rescue firefighter with Marine Wing Support Squadron 271 pulls the unconscious pilot out of a crashed AV-8B Harrier during a training exercise at Marine Corps Auxiliary Landing Field Bogue, N.C., Sept. 14. The aircraft rescue firefighters constantly train to conduct rescues properly. When rescuing an unconscious pilot, the firefighter has to straddle the open cockpit when lifting for stability. In a non-training environment, doing this wrong can cause the pilot to be dropped and sustain greater injuries.
