Soldiers assigned to 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, walk away from a helicopter landing zone after air assault training utilizing Japan Ground Self-Defense Force helicopters on Aibano Training Area, Japan, July 1, 2021, as a part of exercise Orient Shield. Training to operate with partner nation equipment is an important aspect of the exercise. Orient Shield is the largest U.S. Army and Japan Ground Self-Defense Force bilateral field training exercise being executed in various locations throughout Japan to enhance interoperability and test and refine multi-domain and cross-domain operations.
