Senior Chief Petty Officer Edward L. Schulz, the senior medical department representative serving with 1st Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, blows a boatswain’s whistle to “pipe aboard” new chief petty officers during a promotion ceremony here, Sept. 14, 2012. Schulz, a 38-year-old native of Holtville, Calif., sounded the call to attention for the sideboys, who saluted the chief petty officers as they walked down the red carpet.
