Sailors assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) 1 help retrieve team members from the water after they verified the location and placed countermeasure charges on an inert mine-like contact during a Certification Exercise (CERTEX) on Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Oak Harbor, Washington, May 19, 2021. The CERTEX qualifies EODMU-1 for operational deployments where they enable fleet and joint forces to execute a full spectrum of military operations. EODMU-1 is a critical part of Navy Expeditionary Combat Force that clears explosive hazards to provide access to denied areas, secures the undersea domain for freedom of maneuver, builds and fosters relationships with capable and trusted partners, and protects the homeland.
