PACIFIC OCEAN (May 20, 2021) U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Nia Crisp, assigned to amphibious transport dock USS Portland (LPD 27), provides medical care to a simulated casualty during Valkyrie whole blood transfusion training aboard Portland, May 20. The Valkyrie program is designed to teach military medical responders how and when to apply a whole blood transfusion to casualties in a combat environment to help save lives. Marines and Sailors of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and the Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) are underway conducting integrated training off the coast of southern California.
