Hugh Scanlen, a veteran service officer out of Fort Davis, Texas, reads poems written by a National Guard soldier from the New York Army National Guard, 101st Expeditionary Signal Battalion, during the Spiritual Fitness Retreat held at the Holy Trinity Retreat Center in El Paso, Texas, September 19-20, 2012. The poems were written as an outlet to express feelings and emotions felt when dealing with events surrounding a past deployment and are now used inspire hope.
