Lisa Davis and Celina Davis visit Malachowski Hall, named after their nephew and cousin Staff Sgt. James M. Malachowski on Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, June 4, 2021. Lisa and Celina traveled from Maryland to visit the Weapons Training Battalion mess hall ten years after Malachowski lost his life while deployed as a platoon sergeant for 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines in Marjah, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. During his deployment, he demonstrated his selfless service to his Marines as he told others to stay back in fear of triggering another improvised explosive device (IED) after stepping on the IED that later killed him. “The most important part of the chow hall is that the memory of James lives on ten plus years after his passing,” said Lisa Davis.
