PACIFIC OCEAN (May 21, 2021) U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Gigi Gruber, an ordnance quality assurance safety observer with Marine Attack Squadron (VMA) 214, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), poses for a photo beneath the wing of an AV-8B Harrier on the flight deck of amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2), May 21. Aside from equipping aircraft with munitions, Gruber’s responsibilities include inspecting aircraft and ordnance prior to takeoff to ensure that nothing will compromise the safety of the aircraft or pilot.
