Major General Ronald Bailey, the commanding general of 1st Marine Division thanks Lucious Bryant, an 87-year-old native of Carlsbad, Calif., for serving his country during the 1940s and cutting a path through racism so African Americans can join the Corps today, here, Sept. 14, 2012. Bryant is a Marine who served with 1st Marine Division in the 1940s when the Corps was starting to desegregate but African American weren’t treated the same as their fellow brothers.
