A King Air aircraft from the U.S. Forest Service leads and marks the spot where a Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System equipped C-130 from the 146th Airlift Wing ,Channel Islands, Calif., is to drop fire retardant. The C-130 MAFFS aircraft was there to support the U.S. Forest Service in combating the fires in Northern California. MAFFS is a self-contained aerial firefighting system that can discharge 3,000 gallons of water or fire retardant in less than five seconds, covering an area one-quarter of a mile long by 100-feet-wide.
