Members of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and U.S. Forest Service conduct a mission brief on how Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System equipped C-130 Hercules aircraft from the 145th Airlift Wing, Charlotte, N.C., and 146th Airlift Wing, Channel Islands, Calif., will support the California wild fires. The briefing was at McClellan Airport in Sacramento, Calif. The aircraft flew in support of the U.S. Forest Service as they fought fires in Northern California. MAFFS is a self-contained aerial fire fighting system that can discharge 3,000 gallons of water or fire retardant in less than five seconds, covering an area one-quarter of a mile long by 100-feet-wide.
