An aircraft maintainer from the 145th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, Charlotte, N.C., prepares to launch a Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System equipped C-130 Hercules from the 145th Airlift Wing, at McClellan Airport in Sacramento, Calif., in order for the aircraft to fly a fire fighting mission in support of the California wild fires. The aircraft flew in support of the U.S. Forest Service as they fought fires in Northern California. MAFFS is a self-contained aerial fire fighting system that can discharge 3,000 gallons of water or fire retardant in less than five seconds, covering an area one-quarter of a mile long by 100-feet-wide.
