Rear Adm. Tim Weber, Naval Medical Forces Pacific commander, presents coins as he thanks the research team from Naval Medical Research Center after watching them in action at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton's 13 Area clinic, May 24. Researchers and support staff from NMRC, which is located in Silver Spring, Md., were at the clinic to follow up with Marines participating in the COVID-19 Health Action Response for Marines (CHARM) study. The first part of the study took place last year at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island during the height of the pandemic. Researchers aim to understand the long-term health impact of COVID-19 infection by following participants over time. The stop at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton was just one among many as scientists from NMRC travel around the country to follow up with original study volunteers who were recruits when they first volunteered.
