CAMP LEMONNIER, Djibouti (May 25, 2021) U.S. Navy Chief Information System Technician Will Jones of Philadelphia plays Taps on the trumpet during a memorial service in honor of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Edwin Rivera at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, May 25, 2021. Staff Sgt. Rivera joined the Connecticut Army National Guard in 2002, initially as a chemical weapons specialist before becoming an infantryman. He died May 25, 2010, from wounds sustained in combat while serving with Apache Company, 1st Battalion, 102nd Infantry Regiment (Mountain) during his second deployment to Afghanistan. Apache Company, 1st Battalion, 102nd Infantry Regiment is currently forward deployed to Camp Lemonnier, an operational installation that enables U.S., allied and partner nation forces to be where and when they are needed to ensure security in Europe, Africa and Southwest Asia.
