Julie Vinnedge, mother of Lance Cpl. Phillip Vinnedge, an antitank missile gunner who served with Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, speaks to Marines serving with the battalion here, Sept. 13, 2012. Julie, a 47-year-old St. Charles, Mo., native, is a Gold Star mother whose child was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2010. Vinnedge visited the Marines serving with the battalion to help them honor and remember the Marines who were killed. During their 2010 deployment to Afghanistan, the battalion suffered 25 Marines killed and more than 200 total casualties.
