Kimberly Ebel, Mission Officer-in-charge, discuss the logistics of turning Burke County High School into a temporary clinic for East Central Georgia IRT 21. The event will provide no cost medical, optometric, dental, and even veterinary services to several communities this summer around Augusta, Ga. as part of a national program called the Innovative Readiness Training Program which brings military capabilities to US communities in need.
“This will be the third IRT for the area. I has been really good. The teams that come through come across as real professionals. For many of these community members that come and participate in the program, it is the first time they have seen a doctor, an eye doctor, or a dentist, because they have never been able to afford it. Plenty of stories of people getting access to services they have never had access to before and they are always great,” said Andy Crosson, executive director of the Central Savannah River Area Regional Commission, the group responsible for bring the IRT and these communities together.
To date, the East Central Georgia IRT project has provided more than $2 million in services to community members that would otherwise have not had access to basic care.
