U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Kyler Sawtelle, a Minneapolis native and aerospace medical technician with the 78th Health Care Operations Squadron, 78th Air Base Wing stationed at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, administers a COVID-19 vaccination at the state-led, federally-supported Community Vaccination Center at Ford Field in Detroit, April 24, 2021. Sawtelle is part of a group of Airmen assigned to 1st Detachment, 64th Air Expeditionary Group that are assisting with the vaccination efforts. His main responsibility is supporting local community members by ensuring that vaccination administration is done according to medical standards. Sawtelle said, “I like the change of pace, from working in an Air Force hospital to actually directly helping the community. That’s actually the best part of this job.” Sawtelle is ready to provide a helping hand to the community of Detroit. U.S. Northern Command, through U.S. Army North, remains committed to providing continued, flexible Department of Defense support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency as part of the whole-of-government response to COVID-19.
