Fort McCoy Soldiers and community members spent time on April 22, 2021, cleaning up trash along the Elroy-Sparta Bike Trail. Major James Lavelle, Staff Sergeant Ryan Pritchett and Lieutenant Colonel Savas Kyriakidis started at the Sparta Chamber of Commerce with garbage bags, gloves and dedication to community involvement. Considered the first rail-to-trail in the United States, the Elroy-Sparta State Trail has three rock tunnels and five small towns along its 32.5 mile route.
