Twenty-mm shells load at 3000 rounds-per-minute as they are fired from a Phalanx close-in weapons system during a weapons test shoot aboard the forward deployed Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Cowpens (CG 63). Cowpens is part of the George Washington Carrier Strike Group, the U.S. Navy's only forward deployed carrier strike group based out of Yokosuka, Japan, and is conducting a routine patrol in the western Pacific region.
