U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Michael Garvin, an Orwell, New York, native and fire fighter with the 628th Civil Engineering Squadron, 628th Air Base Wing stationed at Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina, draws a COVID-19 vaccine at the state-led, federally-supported Ford Field Community Vaccination Center in Detroit, Michigan, April 14, 2021. Garvin is part of a group of Airmen assigned to 1st Detachment, 64th Air Expeditionary Group, that are assisting with the vaccination efforts. Garvin's main responsibility is supporting local community members by preparing COVID-19 vaccines for vaccinators. Both of Garvin’s parents were infected with COVID-19, but recovered very well. To his family back home, he said, “I love helping here, since we’re deployed in the states, it’s great to directly help our country.” Garvin is ready to provide a helping hand to the community of Detroit. U.S. Northern Command, through U.S. Army North, remains committed to providing continued, flexible Department of Defense support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency as part of the whole-of-government response to COVID-19.
