ThisĀ Fort Riley Friday, we conclude our look at a small cluster of buildings near Irwin Army Community Hospital. These facilities were constructed during the period in which Camp Whitside became the central location for medical activities on post.
The building at 634 Canyon Road, also referred to as E Street, opened in 1929. According to Directorate of Public Works maintenance records it was designated as a storehouse. It was constructed with concrete walls, floors and foundation, and a corrugated iron roof.
The US Army Corp of Engineers in its 1963 inventory of Fort Riley buildings refers to building 634 as a term equipment building.
Building 634 has served a variety of warehouse and support activities over the years. Today, it serves as the home of the Regional Network Enterprise Center Outdoor Plant.
