173rd Airborne Brigade

Sky Soldiers with the 54th Brigade Engineer Battalion (Airborne) fire a .50 caliber machine gun in Slunj, Croatia for Exercise Serrated Edge 21, March 12, 2021. Serrated Edge 21 began Friday with practicing assaulting objectives, live firing their assigned .50 caliber machine guns and Mark 19 grenade launchers and configuring and using the new communications equipment of the ITN network.

Training in our allies' training areas like Slunj helps these paratroopers become familiar with the weapons and equipment they will use if called upon for military operations. It also helps the leadership solidify the tactics, techniques and procedures these teams will use to stay agile, lethal and combatready.

The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the U.S. Army's Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly deployable forces to the United States Europe, Africa and Central Command areas of responsibility. Forward deployed across Italy and Germany, the brigade routinely trains alongside NATO allies and partners to build partnerships and strengthen the alliance.
