Steven A. Castleton, civilian aide to the Secretary of the Army New York (South), and James Hendon, the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Veterans' Services, visit the Service Members and state partners on the overnight shift in support of state efforts to provide mass COVID-19 vaccinations administered by the New York State Department of Health, at the Javits Convention Center in Manhattan, New York, March 08, 2021.
Castleton was escorted by U.S. Army Maj. Michael McLean, executive officer of the 369th Special Troops Battalion, 369th Sustainment Brigade, 53rd Troop Command, and presented a challenge coin to Service Members and civilian state partners, in honor of their service to New York.
The National Guard has hundreds of Guardsmen and women deployed to the vaccination site to support staffing for the site. The New York State Department of Health conducts vaccination efforts for essential workers and members of the community over age 65 beginning January 13, 2021. Eligible members of the public, 18 and over, can register for a vaccine appointment through the Department of Health website: https://am-i-eligible.covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/.
